Dear All, I wanted to write to you all as today is my last day on the Borough as the Neighbourhood Policing Superintendent. My replacement, Superintendent Simon Beardwell starts on Monday. Simon is a highly experienced Superintendent who I am sure can carry on the crucial work in tackling crime and anti-social behaviour on the Borough. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here on Bromley which has been a real privelage.
I thought I would update you all on some excellent results we've had in recent weeks, which leaves me with a great sense of pride for what Bromley teams are delivering, just a few examples include: A shoplifting group in Penge have been actively and effectively targeted, with 3 individuals charged with 56 offences and remanded in custody over Christmas, with Criminal Behaviour Orders either already obtained or applications underwayRetail crime cases solved (known as “positive outcomes”) for Bromley hit very close to 40% in December. They were about 8-10% in March 2023 when I arrived on the Borough and is testament to the extraordinary work your policing teams do to tackle prolific offenders in driving this improvementTeams based in St Mary Cray following Operation Zoridon tackling the handling of stolen goods in October last year are continuing to work closely with businesses to prevent stolen goods finding their way into second hand shops through new and innovative techniques, which is informing crime prevention all across LondonBiggin Hill teams worked to crack a criminal network which was stealing and selling prestige vehicles and engines, recovering around £100k in stolen goods and disrupting motor vehicle crime more crime widelyThe Town Centre teams have led work on delivering a 60% reduction in robbery in Bromley Town in recent weeksPenge Neighbourhood Teams have continued work disrupting drug lines in the area having carried out multiple warrants in recent months, utilising closure orders and having a huge positive impact on the area by removing venues being used to sell and use drugsBromley officers regularly review images of wanted but currently unidentified offenders, and using their local knowledge of the patch, our Top 5 officers recognising 67 offenders in 2025 so they could be arrested and brought to justiceAdditionally, London has now seen the homicide rate fall to the lowest level in 11 years. Every murder is a tragedy, and working to reduce this is a key part of our mission. As always - there is more to do, we will continue to listen and focus on what matters to you. I now move to start a new role working on Neighbourhood Policing Strategy based at New Scotland Yard. I wish Simon and the teams all the very best and thank you all for your continued engagement throughout my time here.
Kind regards,
Luke Baldock
